Dubai Chamber Hosts ‘Tejar Dubai’ Open Day for Aspiring Emirati Entrepreneurs

The Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry organised an open day recently for its initiative of Tejar Dubai, the entrepreneurs development program, which provides a tailored individual learning experience to aspiring national entrepreneurs who could hone their innovative ideas and creativity and enter into the world of business smoothly with their SME projects.

The open day was attended by a large number of young nationals looking forward to a firm footing in entrepreneurship as Mr. Essa Ali Al Zaabi, Senior Vice President, Institutional Support Sector, Dubai Chamber, and General Coordinator of Tejar Dubai unveiled the requirement criteria, the steps to apply as well as the selection procedure for the entrepreneurs development program.

The meeting also had an open panel discussion with H.E. Hisham Al Shirawi, 2nd Vice-Chairman, Dubai Chamber, and Chairman of the panel of Experts Committee of Tejar Dubai who responded to the attendees’ queries about the initiative.

On his part, Al Zaabi highlighted the objective of the open day which he said was to encourage larger participation by young nationals in the entrepreneurship program which was launched by Dubai Chamber in cooperation with the Private Office of H.H. Sheikh Majid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, to identify and develop nascent entrepreneurs amongst UAE nationals and to support them carry forward the enterprising tradition of the country.

He further informed that the program consists of three distinct components including Individually-Tailored Qualification Agenda, Internship/Constructive Work Experience with Managerial Guidance and Mentorship from an Expert on the Panel.

The intensive training will prepare the interns for successfully launching and running their own business as the internship placement, tailored to each participant, will take place in a company/organisation and involves a rotation amongst different departments while the mentorship component offered by a member of the sub-panel of experts will take a winner under his/her wing throughout the duration of the program, he said.

Al Zaabi added that Tejar Dubai is open to young Emiratis in the age group of 15 to 35 years to put forward innovative business ideas online on the website www.tejardubai.ae following which selected candidates will be interviewed by the panel of experts committee who will hand pick the finalists for the entrepreneurs development program.

He said that the initiative’s objective is also to raise private sector participation of Emiratis and to provide them access to events and the opportunity to meet business leaders and gain knowledge which is vital for a sustainable and profitable future of the emirate while enhancing its reputation in the world of business and finance.

In his panel discussion, H.E. Hisham Al Shirawi, Chairman of the panel of Experts Committee, said that the selection process rests on the shoulders of the expert committee comprising of successful entrepreneurs and CEOs who thoroughly study the application, evaluate their ideas and also carry out personal interviews to assess the finalists’ ability to participate in the program successfully.

The committee is also involved in the placement of the successful candidates in the internship and mentorship programs while helping and guiding them in the implementation of their ideas and projects.

Al Shirawi informed that the screening of the ideas is not an easy task as the panel has to see if the application fulfils the required transparency and clarity of a business plan in line with the model developed by Dubai Chamber which is based on best international standards, economic feasibility and the project’s’ ability to stand the tests of the marketplace.

He called upon the young nationals to benefit from Dubai Chamber’s extensive entrepreneurship development program which he said provides them the opportunity to grow professionally and to enter the business world with ease as well as acquire skills and expertise to carry forward the culture of entrepreneurship in the country.
