Dubai SME Opens Registration for Intelaq Entrepreneur Programme

Dubai SME, the agency of the Department of Economic Development in Dubai ‘DED’ mandated to develop the small and medium enterprise ‘SME’ sector, has opened registration for its Intelaq entrepreneur training programme due in October 2012.

The innovative programme is aimed to assist UAE nationals in Dubai take their first step into the world of business through simple projects, which can also be managed from the comfort of their homes.

The programme will include a minimum of 10 Arabic lectures totalling 40 hours of theory and practicals. The participants will learn how to start and manage a successful project from home.

“We are committed to promoting the SME sector and the role of micro-enterprises managed by UAE nationals, even from their homes, is significant in boosting entrepreneurial skills among young Emiratis. This will serve as a stepping stone for them to expand to larger businesses and contribute to the UAE’s economy,” said Abdul Baset Al Janahi, Chief Executive Officer, Dubai SME.

With 95% of the companies in Dubai being SMEs, Al Janahi said the Dubai SME team works continuously to provide the highest level of support to enhance outcomes from Dubai SME members and the Intelaq license owners by encouraging their investment in diverse projects.

Intelaq licenses are issued to UAE nationals interested in setting up and operating their own businesses single-handedly from home. The application fees for these licenses, which are issued on an annual basis, have d at Dhs1,000. The applicants must be UAE nationals residing in the Emirate of Dubai, at the time of application. They must also refrain from any activity outside the scope of the license.

The activity can be undertaken for three years from the date of issuing the license, which must be renewed annually. The Intelaq license will be converted to a business license after three years.
