IT Support Platform Geeks Raises $600,000 in Seed Fund

Geeks.ae, a platform that helps connect consumers and business with Geeky resources to support their IT needs, raised a seed round of $600,000, led by Wamda Capital. The round also included Dubai-based investment group Equitrust and Bayt CEO Rabea Ataya.

Cofounded by Mousa Yassin and Fathi Al Sharif in December 2014, Geeks currently operates in the UAE and plans to use the money to build on its technology and infrastructure to support it’s expansion to several GCC countries in 2017. The startup focuses on providing services at the customer’s location to ensure that daily workflows aren’t interrupted in the event of an IT problem.

It achieves this with a platform which helps connect SMEs and consumers with the technicians who match the required skill set they are looking for. Their platform also helps SME’s constantly monitor their IT health and provides a dedicated support person to help as soon as a problem is detected.

“Our vision for the platform is to become the common IT management hub for SMEs just like Quickbooks is for accounting and Zenefits is for HR,” said Yassin in an email exchange with Wamda.

Nowadays, even householders have to manage their home IT systems. Houses often use an unexpectedly high number of devices such as smartphones, tablets, laptops and connected appliances, which leaves a large opportunity to provide technical services on a domestic level as well.

In the past year, Geeks worked with 6,500 customers, fixing 3,500 phones, 2,400 laptops, and 600 tablets. “To offer high end services our focus is on developing a backend technology that allows us to deliver a frictionless service to our customers. The front end was built on Angular JS and the backend covers the end to end cycle of a request” said Yassin.
