Zomato Goes International With Dubai Editon

Zomato, India’s largest online restaurant and nightlife guide has forayed into International markets with the launch of its services in Dubai (http://www.zomato.com/dubai). Zomato has launched the Dubai section of its website with more than 3,500 restaurants listed along with menus, ratings, reviews, maps and photos.

Providing information for all types of restaurants, Zomato is a one-stop-shop for anyone looking to eat out or get food delivered. Zomato’s biggest strength is that it provides scanned menus, photos and coordinates for most of the 3,500 restaurants listed in Dubai. The user, therefore, knows what to expect when he or she enters the restaurant.

Zomato is now 4 years old and the website gets more than 4 million users every month who use Zomato to discover the best places to eat around them. Zomato was founded by Deepinder Goyal and Pankaj Chaddah, both IIT Delhi graduates and ex-Bain employees, in July 2008 for Delhi NCR.

Since then, Zomato has expanded its services to 12 cities in India including – Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bangalore, Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Chandigarh, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Lucknow and Indore. The Dubai launch is Zomato’s first step in its International expansion plans, which also include expanding into more cities in South East Asia & Middle East by end of 2012.

Albinder Dhindsa, Head of International Expansion, Zomato said “We have been focusing on increasing our reach beyond India over the last couple of months. Dubai is one of the most popular business hubs globally, has a very vibrant restaurant industry and has high Internet penetration making it a good market for us to expand into. We believe there is a huge need of Zomato’s services to the Dubai consumers and we have been getting requests from people in Dubai on social media as well. We are expecting a very good response from the growing business community in Dubai.”

Zomato, founded in 2008, is India’s largest restaurant guide listing over 40,000 restaurants. Zomato was started by IIT Delhi alumni for Delhi NCR and has expanded its services over a span of 4 years to 12 cities in India. Info Edge has invested over $6.5M in Zomato since 2010. Zomato has recently forayed into print as well with the Citibank Zomato Restaurant Guide 2012.

Zomato is headquartered in New Delhi and currently employs 150 people. Zomato has expanded into the international markets with the launch of their Dubai section and will expand to more cities in the Middle East and South East Asia by end of 2012.
